What is Coaching?

Coaching is about creating new possibilities in your life, both professionally and personally.

What Can  A coach do for me?

If you want to make a change, a coach can help you figure out:

  • What you most desire?
  • How to turn that desire into reality?
  • What is likely to get in your way?
  • How to overcome obstacles?
  • What changes you need to make on a personal level to ensure success?

How does coaching work?

Coaching is a partnership between the client and the coach.  At the outset, the client identifies the goals that he or she is looking to accomplish.  The coach and client, working together, lay out a plan for each goal.  Then, in each coaching session, the client sets the agenda for the conversation, which usually relates to one of the client's goals.

Coaches meet weekly with clients for one hour, in person, over the phone, or by Skype.  Clients typically commit to coaching for a minimum of three to four months, although often they can meet for six to twelve months.

How is coaching different from therapy?

There are three main differences between coaching and therapy:

  • Coaching focuses on the present and the future, while therapy is concerned with understanding the past.
  • Coaches relate to clients as a partners, whereas therapists relate as professional experts and healers.
  • Coaches help clients create a new future, while therapists seek to fix the past.

What are my responsibilities as a coaching client?

As a coaching client, you must be prepared to evaluate your thoughts, actions, and automatic ways of being.  Therefore, you must be wiling to make changes in these areas.  You must set aside time each week to speak with your coach as well as time to practice new thoughts and actions.

what are the responsibilities of my coach?

Your coach is committed to your success and creating new possibilities for your life.  To do this, your coach will create a foundation for a trusting and effective relationship by listening carefully to what you want to create in your life.  The coach will also ask powerful questions to help you access your inner wisdom and help you brainstorm ways to overcome obstacles.  The coach will assist you in identifying old patterns of thinking and behavior and in creating new ones.  Of course, your coach will keep all discussions confidential.

How do I get started?

Every coaching relationship begins with a complimentary coaching session.  In this session, the coach and the client explore together what the client hopes to achieve through coaching.  Click here to sign up for a complimentary session:

why should I commit to three months of coaching up front?

Creating possibility and making change takes time.  It's a game of bunts and singles, where it takes time to "earn" a run.  Clients typically make some initial progress, but then may get stuck for a few weeks, before being able to move forward.  Committing to coaching for three months allows you the time you need to create new possibilities.
